Polio

I had contracted polio at the age of 39. I was sailing and I fell out and into the water. Later I felt chilled and soon my leg was become saggy; it wouldn't move as well. Soon my other leg began not to work and I couldn't feel them. The pain in my legs was so bad and the doctors could do nothing because they didn't have a diagnosis. I spent most of my time after that in a wheelchair. I had become afraid of fire at the time because he was in a wheelchair; I later learned how to drag myself across the floor. I spent most of my finances on building a spa at my beach house. Even though I had this terrible disease, that didn't stop me from making a difference in our world. When I had to deliver speeches, I would usually have two people hold me up or I would hold on to something. I tried to keep my disease a secret for political reasons. I never recovered from my disease; I remained paralyzed for my presidency until I died. His Georgia beach House is now called "the little White House" for people with Physical disabilities.

The Great Depression/ The New Deal

When I was giving my acceptance speech, I promised a new deal for the American people which would help solve the economy's problems. The New Deal I promised the American people began to take shape immediately after my Inauguration in March. Later, a second New Deal was to take place, which included union protection programs, the Social Security Act, and different programs to help tenant farmers and migrant workers. The New Deal act really improved the lives of people suffering from the depression. During the Great Depression blacks were becoming angry at continuing racial injustice and they were threatening to march; so I signed an executive order setting up a Fair Employment Practices Committee(FEPC) to prevent discrimination towards employment and such. When the stock market crashed, it hit Wall Street; but people didn't think that it would have as much impact as it did. My plan helped sort out our economy but their were flaws; like it didn't raise the GNP because I refused to make the deficits any higher.

Hardships during my Presidency

I was elected President in November, 1932 to the first of four terms. I had Polio at the time of when I was elected but I was trying to regain strength. When become president, their was over 13,000,000 people unemployed and almost all the banks were closed down. I created something called the Tennessee Valley Authority, which helped towards the relief of unemployed people and saving businesses/farms. By 1935 the Nation had recovered but bankers and such were getting mad at this new plan I had made. I was re-eleceted in 1936 for my second term. I tried very hard not to put the U.S in war with Europe; I tried very hard to keep a powerful country and I believe that even through the great depression that I did so with so many great people by my side. When the Japansese attacked Pearl Harbor on December 7, 1941, I started an organization of the Nation's manpower and resources for global war. I spent most of my time planning the United Nations because I wanted to settle international difficulties that had been occuring. During WWII, my health was getting worse and on April 12, 1945 in Warm Springs Georgia, I died of a cerebral hemorrhage.
